DMP takes foolproof security ahead of Pahela Boishakh

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken necessary measures to ensure foolproof security for peaceful and smooth celebration of the programmes, marking the Pahela Boishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year.

Venues of Pahela Boishakh celebration, particularly the main venues -- Ramna Park, Dhaka University, Suhrawardi Udyan, Rabindra Sarobar and its surrounding areas -- will be brought under stringent security arrangement by setting up closed circuit camera televisions, archways, and watch towers and deploying law enforcers in large numbers, said an official release.

The city dwellers have been requested not to carry handbag, trolley bag, large vanity bag, explosive substances, knife, firearms, scissor, bombs, blade and gaslight for the sake of security.

DMP also requested all not to wear masks and carry sticker of advertisements while taking part in the procession (Mongol Shovajatra) and to inform police about any sort of suspicious movement.

It also requested the city dwellers to leave Ramna Park and Suhrawardi Udyan areas by 6pm and Rabindra Sarobar area by 7:00pm on the day. The DMP also asked to complete all open-air programmes by 5:00pm, except the one held at Rabindra Sarobar.

The DMP also issued a ban on playing, buying and selling vuvuzela. It requested all to be careful about the standard and price of the foods specially panta-ilish before having those.

Traffic management: The DMP has taken elaborate measures to ensure better traffic management in the capital city. Traffic movements will be stopped on the Pahela Boishakh at Bangla Motor-Ruposhi Bangla-Shahbagh-TSC-Doel Chattar; Ruposhi Bangla-Kakrail-Matshya Bhaban-Kodom Foara; Matshya Bhaban-Shahbagh-Kantaban;Polashi-Shaheed Minar-Doel Chattar-High Court Crossing; Bakshibazar-Shaheed Minar-TSC; Shahidullah Hall Crossing-Doel Chattar and Nilkhet-TSC areas.

DMP has requested all to use the alternative roads. The roads are: Mirpur Road-Science Laboratory-New Market-Azimpur-Bakshibazar-Chankharpool-Gulishtan; Russell Square-Sonargaon-Rainbow-Moghbazar-Malibagh;Rajmoni-UBl-Gulishtan;Mohakhali-Satrasta-Moghbazar-Kakrail-Rajmoni-UBL-Gulishtan;Farmgate-Sonargaon-Banglamotor-moghbazar-Mouchak-Malibagh-Khilgaom and Firmgate-Sonargaon-Bangla Motor-Moghbazar-Kakrail Church-Rajmoni-Paltan-Motijheel, reports BSS.
