Describing the steps to resolve the acute crisis of water and electricity in the capital, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the city dwellers are now free from these problems.
The Awami League chief also said all roads in the city were also in dilapidated condition when her party took office in 2009.
"The city was also reeling on the problems of mugging, terrorism and militancy," she added.
Sheikh Hasina made the remarks while addressing a election campaign in the city Gulshan Youth Club ground on Friday marking forthcoming parliamentary election, report BSS and UNB.
The Prime Minister promised to introduce a subway train service in the capital to end the nagging traffic congestion if Awami League returns to power through the upcoming election.
Sheikh Hasina said her government will construct flats for low-income people and take the electricity lines underground.
“We have multifaceted plans to build Dhaka as a scenic city liveable for every citizen and ensure all civic amenities, development of commuting system and its beauty,” she said.
“If elected we will construct elevated ring-road around Dhaka and the survey is going on for underground metro rail to make the city free from traffic congestion,” she added.
The Prime Minister called upon the city dwellers to vote for Awami League candidates in the December 30 general election to keep the party in power for building a modern capital.
She said her government has established eleven new schools and colleges in Dhaka city and many schools were nationalised improving their infrastructures.
