Dhaka-bound people flock at Kathalbari Ghat in Madaripur

After the Eid celebrations, people from 21 districts of Southern parts of the country flocked at Kathalbari Ghat in Madaripur to join the workplace.

Passengers started arriving at Shimulia Ghat by launch, speedboat and ferry from Kathalbari Ghat on Tuesday morning. However, due to shortage of ferries, most passengers are crossing the Padma in launches and speedboats.

Due to unfavourable weather and strong currents in the river, a total of seven ferries including four rovers are currently plying on the Kathalbari-Shimulia route. These ferries have more motorcycles than other vehicles.

Meanwhile, passengers have to stay in the ghat area for a long time due to the crisis of public transport. Many passengers have to suffer in this situation.

BIWTC Manager (Commerce) Abdur Noor Tushar said there was pressure on Dhaka-bound passengers at the wharf. A lot of motorcyclists are using the ferry.

The pressure on the ferry has eased as many passengers are arriving through launch.

At present, there are more than three hundred small and big vehicles including more than one hundred freight trucks at the wharf. All vehicles will be crossed according to the serial.
