Mosquito menace: DNCC cancels leave of officials

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has cancelled leave of all officials of its related departments in a bid to control the recent surge of mosquito-borne diseases, particularly dengue, chikungunya, in the city.

"I am announcing the cancellation of leave of all officials and employees of the waste management and health departments .. even they will not get no leave during next Eid," said DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam at an awareness building rally held at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka this morning.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal and high officials of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), among others, were part of the rally, according to local media reports.

Earlier on Thursday, Finance Minister Kamal said he was keeping away the Planning Commission at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, which falls under the DNCC, due to fear of mosquito stings.
