The shuttle train service of Chittagong University has been suspended following a blockade enforced by a faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over several demands.
The BCL faction took position at Zero Point in the campus at around 7:00am Sunday and started staging demonstration after locking up the university main gate.
Later, they put up a barricade on the rail tracks and abducted the driver of a shuttle train that disrupted the service and created sufferings to university-bound teachers and several thousand students.
Although the driver was released later, the train service remained suspended till filing of this UNB report around 11:00am.
Their demands include release of six BCL activists and withdraw of a case filed against them.
Confirming about the blockade, Md Jakir Hossain, in-charge of Sholoshohor Railway Police outpost, said that additional security measures have been taken in the campus.
Belal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Hathazari Police station, said that a case was filed against several BCL activists after a clash between two factions of Awami League's student wing and recovery of arms.
Protesting the incident, the faction of BCL enforced the strike.
