Suspected robber dies in 'gunfight' with Sylhet police

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Choripara village in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman Habi, 45.

A team of police went to the village to arrest Habi, an accused in a robbery case, around 9:30pm, said ASP of Sylhet police and media officer Shamsul Alam Sarker, according to a news agency report.

Sensing the presence of police, Habi and his family members opened fire on the law enforcers forcing the police to retaliate, Sarker claimed.

He said Habi was shot dead while six people, including four police officers, were injured in the gunfight.
