Police arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from Shamserbad area in the Lakshmipur municipality town in connection with an arson case on Wednesday night.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided Poler Gora area and detained Abul Farah Nishan (35), secretary of town unit Jamaat-e-Islami and former president of district unit of Chhatra Shibir, said Lokman Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station.
UNB reported quoting OC that the arrestee was wanted in several cases including that of arson attack.
