Construction works of Bangabandhu Railway Bridge to begin Thursday

The construction work of the Bangabandhu Railway Bridge will begin on Thursday as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation-stone of the bridge on the day.

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Wednesday said the government has completed all necessary processes including tenders and contracts completed for the construction of the bridge, which will be constructed over the Jamuna River next to the Bangabandhu Bridge, reports BSS.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially lay the foundation stone of this railway bride on November 29. The construction work of the bridge will start after the Prime Minister unveils the foundation stone,” the minister said while inspecting the site of the railway bridge in Saidabad area of Sirajganj this afternoon.

He also said that, “With this new railway bridge, trains will be able to run at a speed of 100 kilometres per hour on two lines.”

The project is expected to be done by 2025, added the minister.

Local lawmaker Prof Dr Habib-e-Milat, District Council Chairman Abdul Latif Biswas, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and other senior officials of the Railway Department were present on the occasion.
