The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) on Thursday destroyed a total of 2,000 substandard water jars at different parts of the capital.

The jars were torn down as untreated and unhygienic drinking water were being marketed.

The BSTI surveillance team in sudden drives dismantled the jars from the city's Madhubagh, Hatirjheel, East Rampura, Khilgaon area, and West Nandipara areas, according to a statement.

Jars of four illegal factories, several shops and water supply vans in those areas were also destroyed on grounds of water unauthorised production and sale.
