Outgoing Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary on Sunday directed field-level police officials to bring those involved in misappropriating relief and irregularities in its distribution to book, saying no anomalies will be tolerated in this regard.

He made the directive joining a videoconference with the officials of different police units, reports UNB.

The IGP urged common people to distribute relief in coordination with police so that disadvantaged and distressed people get those.

He also said the lockdown must be maintained where it was enforced to curb coronavirus.

“People have to stay home. You must stop gossiping by people outside. Relief must be distributed ensuring social distancing," he said.

Javed Patwari asked police personnel to increase their surveillance so that crimes like theft, mugging and domestic violence see no rise in the current situation.

He congratulated newly appointed IGP Benazir Ahmed, saying under his able leadership, Bangladesh Police will go a long way. “He’ll take Bangladesh Police to a unique height with his talent, skills, wisdom and enthusiasm.”

The government on April 7 appointed Benazir Ahmed, director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), as the new inspector general of police. He is set to take charge on April 15.
