The government has taken measures to help check the spread of coronavirus infections among launch passengers across the country.

The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) at an emergency meeting with launch owners on Friday took some decisions to ensure the safety of launch passengers and stem the spread of coronavirus.

BIWTA Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq presided over the meeting held at Dhaka River Port Terminal at Sadarghat in the city.

He called upon the launch owners and passengers to strictly follow the guidelines on the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

The decisions taken by BIWTA include: disinfecting vessels with savlon before passengers get on launch, compulsory hand wash by passengers before getting on launch, sending passengers to hospital immediately if anyone shows symptoms of cough, fever and sneezing, admission of passengers to hospital who returned to the country and three-day training for BIWTA officials on how to deal with the coronavirus situation.

Member (planning) of BIWTA Md Delwar Hossain, secretary Muhammad Abu Jafar Hawlader and directors Kazi Wakil Nawaz and Md Rafiqul Islam, among others, were present.
