Attack on Hasina's train in 1994: Verdict on Wednesday

The verdict in a case filed over the bomb attack on a train carrying then opposition leader and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina in Pabna in 1994 will be delivered on Wednesday.

Judge of the Additional District and Session's Court-2 Rostam Ali fixed the date on Monday after concluding the law-point arguments, reports UNB.

The court also issued warrants for the arrest of prime accused Zakaria Pintu, general secretary of Iswardi municipality unit BNP, and party leaders Mokhlesur Rahman Bablu and Humayun Kabir Dulal who have been on the run.

Advocate Akteruzzaman Mukta and Advocate Salma Ahmed Shilu represented the state while Advocate Nurul Islam stood for the accused during the hearing.

On Sunday, the court sent 30 BNP leaders and activists to jail after they appeared before it seeking bail in the case.

Miscreants opened fire and hurled bombs targeting a Rajshahi-bound train carrying Sheikh Hasina when it reached Pakshi Railway Station on September 23, 1994.

Nazrul Islam, the then officer-in-charge of Iswardi Government Railway Police Station, filed the case in this connection.

On April 3, 1997, police submitted a charge-sheet against 52 people in the case.
