The lone accused in the case filed over the killing of Wari minor girl Samia Afrin Saima after rape reportedly confessed before a city court on Monday to his crime.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari recorded the confessional statement of Harun-or-Rashid, 25, when police produced him before court, said Mohammad Arjun, an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police.

Detectives on Sunday arrested Harun from Dabordanga area in Cumilla district, reports UNB.

Saima, younger daughter of Abdus Salam, was found dead at a flat on the 8th floor of a building in Wari on July 5.

According to the family, Saima came out of their 6th-floor flat around 6:30pm on Friday for going to their neighbour's flat to play with her friend.

However, they did not find her at the neighbour's flat around 7:30pm which prompted a hectic search for the minor girl.

Later, she was found dead at the kitchen of a flat on the 8th floor which basically remained locked all the time.

Victim's father filed a case with Wari Police Station.

After conducting a postmortem, Dr Sohel Mahmud, head of Dhaka Medical College Hospital's Forensic Medicine Department, said the girl was murdered after rape as they found the evidence of rape on the victim's body.
