The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday filed a case against an open market sale (OMS) dealer in Bogura on charge of embezzling rice meant to be sold to underprivileged people at Tk 10 per kg.

However, the dealer of the government’s OMS programme, Md Moshiur Rahman is on the run but the anti-graft agency is trying to arrest the person, said ACC public relations official Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.

Moshiur, brother of SM Rupom, ruling party chairman for Moydanhata union of Shibganj upazila of Bogura, embezzled total of 710 kg rice allocated for needy people in the upazila.

ACC’s Assistant director Mohammad Aminul Islam of integrate district office (IDO) in Bogura filed the case in this regard.

The case was filed as per sections 409 and 420 of the Penal Code and section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

About the case, ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood said, “The commission has warned about taking stern action if anyone gets involved in misappropriation of relief goods and other items under the government’ social safety net programmes.”

“Legal action will be taken amid allegations of such incidents and no one will be spared,” he added.
