ACC files case against three for embezzling 1,590kgs of rice

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday filed a case against three persons including a Union Parishad (UP) chairman on allegation of embezzling 1,590 kg rice allocated for fishermen.

The accused are -- BM Nasiruddin Shapan, chairman of Kuchaipatti Union of Gosairhat Upazila in Shariatpur, member of ward-3 of the same Union Mofassar Bepari and member of ward-9 Shamim Bepari.

The individuals, in collusion, stole total of 1,590 kg rice allocated for cardholder fishermen under the government’s vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme, according to the case statement.

ACC Assistant Director Kamalesh Mandal filed the case with the commission’s integrated district office (IDO) in Faridpur as per sections 409, 420 and 109 of the Penal Code and section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
