Mobile users in and around Dhaka are facing some network issues as about 6,000 cellphone towers went offline on Sunday night after the Bangladesh Power Development Board's commercial power stopped working.

According to UNB, Banglalink's Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Taimur Rahman said that 2,300 of their Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers had gone out of service.

"Half of them are currently being run with the help of generators. Users in Dhaka and adjacent areas are facing some network issues," he said.

Ikram Ahmed, vice-president of Robi, said there are network problems if BPDB power remains off.

"There have been some network issues since yesterday but we can't say for sure how many of our network sites are currently offline," he said.

Teletalk's Deputy General Manager Saifur Rahman Khan said about 250 of their BTS towers have been out of service since the storm.
