  507,040 get support from govt legal aid organisation in 10 yrs

The National Legal Aid Services Organisation has provided support to 507,040 poor and helpless people in last 10 years across the country.

The organisation has helped realise over Tk 353.61 million (35,3600,000) as compensation which was provided to those people.

A total of 126,492 cases were settled through providing legal aid by the organisation, a statutory organisation of the government under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs responsible for providing legal aid to poor Bangladeshis.

Bangladesh has enacted “Legal Aid Services Act – 2000 " in 2000 to provide legal aid for the litigants who are incapable of seeking justice due to financial insolvency, destitution, helplessness and for various socio -economic conditions.

In the last 10 years, the organisation has provided 384,823 people through 64 district legal aid offices, 20,092 people through the Supreme Court legal aid office, 83,918 people through the National Helpline Call Centre -16430 and 18,207 people through the Dhaka and Chittagong Workers Legal Aid Cell.
