30 more die, 1356 test positive, 1066 recover in 24 hrs: DGHS

Thirty more people died from coronavirus (Covid-19) in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Monday, according to the statistics of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With this, the death toll due to the deadly virus infection reached at 3,184, Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana said.

Besides, 1,356 people tested positive for the virus during the same period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 2,42,102, she added.

However, some 1,066 patents have recovered from the disease bringing the total figure to 137,905.

Prof Dr Nasima came up with the disclosure in the daily online news bulletin at the Management Information System (MIS) in the afternoon.

She said a total of 4,249 tests had been done across the country during the reporting period.

The new tests take the tally of diagnosis to 1,193,544 in the country, she said.

Among the deceased, 25 are male and 5 are female, Dr Sultana said.

Among the fatalities, two were between 31-40, three between 41-50, four between 51-60, fourteen between 61-70, five between 71-80, one was between 81-90, and one was above 90 years old.

Fifteen were from Dhaka division, five from Chattogram, four from Khulna, three from Rajshahi, one each from Mymensingh, Rangpur, and Sylhet divisions.

Of them, 27 died in hospitals and 3 died in their homes, she added.

According to the state-run Directorate General of Health Services, 54,854 people now remain in both home and institutional quarantine while 18,825 others in isolation.

On Sunday, 22 people died and 886 people tested positive for the highly infectious disease.

In the continent, India tops the list of total cases with 1,808,128 cases, followed by Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh until Monday at 3:00 pm, according to Worldometer data.

As per the global list, Bangladesh topped Turkey that has reported 232,856 cases so far while Germany is one step behind the south Asian nation with 211,462 cases.

So far over 18,252,851 people have been infected globally with the deadly virus which originated in China in December last year. Of them, 693,117 people died from the virus.

Of the infected, 6,103,954 are currently being treated while 65,735 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.
