219 journalists harassed in Bangladesh in January-October: Report

At least 219 journalists fell victim to harassment in Bangladesh in January-October 2020, according to a report by a local independent rights body.

Of them, 24 received death threats over the phone during the period, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) says in the report. 

It adds that 20 journalists were attacked and harassed by political parties while 29 others were tortured and harassed by suspected terrorists.

Some 82 cases were filed in connection with media reports during the period under review, ASK points out.

According to the local rights body data, at least 142 journalists were harassed in 2019 while some 207 journalists faced harassment in 2018.
