142 Italy returnees quarantined at Ashkona Hajj Camp

A total of 142 Bangladeshis have arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 8:20am this morning from an epicentre of coronavirus in Italy.

Ordered by health minister Zahid Maleque, they were all sent to Ashkona Hajj Camp for a 14-day compulsory quarantine.

Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Dr Meerzady Sabrina Flora confirmed the FE that the number of Bangladeshis arrived from Italy was 142.

When asked about the returnees' sickness or temperature detected in the thermal scanner, the IEDCR director said she was not yet aware about all this. However, she could tell about it all during the regular briefing.  

An Italian newspaper Thursday reported that more than 100 Bangladeshis fled the corona epicentre of Italy Veneto region in the last flight of Emirates. They reached Dhaka today (Saturday) via Dubai.

Meanwhile, Nepal Friday banned visa on arrival effective from today (14 March) until 30 March. Those that reach there with visa will have to show health certificate done seven days before arrival in Nepal.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has cancelled its March 15 and March 17 flights to Nepal. However, the national flag carrier confirmed that its flight on March 19 will remain unchanged.
