Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has said China is sending 10,000 testing kits and 10,000 preventive equipment to help in containing coronavirus outbreak and those will arrive anytime soon.
Momen gave the information at a briefing at the state guest house Padma on Saturday.
Besides, the private sector is also bringing preventive equipment by chartered flights, he mentioned.
The minister urged the expatriate Bangladeshis to defer their plans for home-coming until the situation would improve.
We have asked our missions abroad to encourage the expatriate Bangladeshis not to return home now, the minister said.
The government is committed to ensure that returnees from abroad will undergo home or institutional quarantine for 14 days.
He also urged the people to inform the local administration about any violation of quarantine guidelines by returnees.
“Inform the local administration if you find that a returnee is not following the quarantine guideline, action will be taken against him/her,” he added.
The government has already cancelled all holidays for officials and employees under essential services provided by police, home ministry, health ministry and foreign ministry, the minister said.
Foreign minister also informed that the government has suspended commercial passenger flights from another 10 countries till March 31, keeping air connectivity with only 4 countries of the world.
The four countries with which passenger flights will be continued are UK, China, Thailand and Hong Kong.
