Nazara, a student in class four asked her teacher  “Miss, Do you watch K-Drama?” a few days earlier her mother Dr. Navida also asked me the same! As a Kdrama lover, I can feel the wide range of popularity in Bangladesh.

Korean dramas are one of the major components of Korean culture mainly produced in South Korea. In recent years reached its peak and Bangladesh is no exception. This phenomenon is known as ‘Hallyu’ means Korean wave. Hallyu refers to the exportation of popular South Korean cultures such as music, drama,  food, etc.  From the Han River to the Padma this Korean wave is also hitting Bangladesh. Let’s dive into it.

Korean dramas are winning hearts because of their heart-wrenching story, conveying messages about human relationships. One would burst out of laugh after watching a drama ‘Welcome to Waikiki’, and the same person would cry after watching ‘It’s okay not to be okay’.

One would experience an emotional roller coaster while watching shows such as ‘Reply 1988’, ‘Good Bad Mother ‘, ‘Crash Landing on You’ and so on.  Thus, Korean dramas allow you to taste diversity. Mahbuba Afrin Meghla a student of the University of Dhaka from a social science background loves the Romcom genre. She said, “I feel at my best when I watch kdrama. These shows give me inner peace.’’

Afra Tabassum who loves to watch dramas for entertainment said that ‘‘South Korea is a patriarchal society so the representation of this kind of stories is unrealistic.”

However, out of interest Bangladeshis are getting involved in Korean culture gradually. Korean culture has now impact on day-to-day life. Instead, people of Bangladesh especially the youth are now following Korean fashion style.

Koreans' eye-catching dressing sense and unique jewelry attract both males and females. Because of customer demand, many shops are importing Korean jewelry and accessories. You can find your Korean-inspired outfit in Daraz, Ubuy, the Mallbd, and Daisy Apparel BD.

Korean beauty products have vast adoration among young people. Although the price of these products is high they are efficient. Beauty booth, Lavistha, Korean Mall, and Korean Mart are some famous shops to purchase authentic Korean beauty products. Learning the Korean language and going there to pursue higher study is also popular.

In a word, Korean drama and their culture are now a part of our daily life.  From sharing posts about favorite actors to buying goods  Kdrama lovers expressing their love in many ways. Keeping the controversy aside, Korean drama is a free ticket to roam around the imaginary world.
