Around 24 per cent of the total investments of the country’s banking sector come from the Islamic banks, according to the latest statistics of the central bank.
It showed that total Investments, loans in conventional sense, in Islamic banking sector stood at Tk 2.31 trillion at the end of December 2018 while total loans of the banking sector stood at Tk 9.60 trillion.
Central bank statistics also showed that investment by the Islamic banking sector increased around 5.0 per cent by the end of last quarter of the past year over the previous quarter-end.
It also added that Islamic banks’ investment jumped by 14.82 per cent over the last quarter of 2017.3
