National Tubes lights up weekly turnover chart

Ten most traded companies accounted for nearly 31 per cent of transactions on the prime bourse in the outgoing week, with the National Tubes generating the highest turnover.

The state-run company also dominated the week's gainers' chart, soaring 30.87 per cent over the previous week even as the market plunged.

Market analysts said investors showed their appetite for the National Tubes shares ahead of dividend declaration as the company's financial year ended on June 30.

According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) data, about 6.93 million shares of National Tubes were traded, generating a turnover of nearly 1.02 billion, which was 6.03 per cent of the week's total turnover of Tk 16.86 billion.

The company's share closed at Tk 167.90 each on Thursday, the last trading session of the week.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at negative Tk 0.96 for July 2018-March 2019 as against negative Tk 2.24 for July 2017-March 2018.

The net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) was Tk 0.03 for July 2018-March 2019 as against negative Tk 1.26 for July 2017-March 2018.

The net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 175.07 as on March 31, 2019 and Tk 193.62 as on June 30, 2018.

The National Tubes, listed on the DSE in 1989, disbursed 10 per cent stock dividend in 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 316.56 million and authorised capital is Tk 1.0 billion while total number of securities is 31.65 million.

The sponsor-directors own 0.05 per cent stake in the company, while the government owns 51 per cent, institutional investors own 20.14 per cent and the general public 28.81 per cent as of August 31, 2019, the DSE data showed.

JMI Syringes came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 600 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 6.66 per cent to close at Tk 520.80 on Thursday.

Beacon Pharma clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 592 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 28.70, gaining 9.54 per cent.

Monno Ceramic emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 569 million changing hands. The company's share fell 6.02 per cent to close at Tk 209.20 on Thursday.

Monno Jute Stafflers notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 559 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 1967.90, advancing 10.71 per cent over the previous week.

The turnover of Stylecraft was Tk 528 million last week. The textile company's share closed at Tk 879.60, losing 4.36 per cent.

Wata Chemicals featured a turnover of Tk 384 million. The company's share closed at Tk 652.40, gaining 8.19 per cent.

The turnover of United Power was Tk 321 million. The company's share price plunged 17.39 per cent to close at Tk 321.10, following its price adjustment after record date.

Silco Pharma featured a turnover of Tk 314 million. The company's share closed at Tk 30.80, losing 12.50 per cent over the previous week.

The IBN Sina Pharmaceuticals also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 294 million changing hands. The company's share advanced 1.71 per cent to close at Tk 268 each on Thursday.
