Padma Bridge gets ninth span; now 1350 metres visible

Around 1350 metres of the much-hyped Padma Bridge is now visible with the installation of ninth span on the pillars no 34 and 35 on Friday.

The 150-metre span, weighing 3,140 tonnes, was installed at the Jajira point around 8:45 am, said deputy assistant engineer of Padma Bridge project, Humayun Kabir.

Earlier, the span of the Pabma Bridge was taken to the Jajira point by the 3600 tonnes capacity floating crane ‘Tian-E’ from the Mawa Kumarbhog Construction Ward, five kilometres away from the point on Wednesday but it could not be installed till Thursday afternoon due to poor navigability at the point.

The works of Padma Multipurpose Bridge first became visible with the installation of 150-metre first span on the pillars no 37 and 38 on October 30, 2017, UNB reports.

The construction work on the country's largest bridge started in December 2015.

The 6.15-km bridge will have a total of 41 spans, each 150 metres long.
