Tangail curd producers pass busy time in winter season

TANGAIL, Jan 28: Sweetmeat cham cham and curd of Tangail is famous in the country and aboard.

Every day more than one thousand kilo of curd and sweetmeats are being sent to the different districts. Among them capital city Dhaka is the most important buyer of the produce, local sources said.

Now-a-days curd producers of the district are passing very busy time as they are getting more supple orders.

Gour Ghosh, owner of Gour Ghosh Mistanna and Dadhi Bhandar on Mowlana  Bhashani Road of the town said around 1000 curd producers are there in he twelve upazilas of the district to meet the local as well as orders from different district and abroad.

The artisans, locally call karigor, prepare the tasty food items very carefully round the year. But in the winter season they become very busy due to the celebration of different socio-cultural programmes in this time. People organise marriage ceremony, picnic and different types of traditional programmes.

So demand of the curds and sweets increase this time compared to the other times of the year. The artisans are passing very busy time to produce adequate supply of this juicy food items across the district and aboard.

The demand of the famous items are increasing gradually everywhere of the country and aboard. Every day near about 400 kg of milk used to make 200 kg of curds at a big shop of Pachani Bazaar of the town, sources said.

The curds which were sold at Tk 200 to Tk 250 per kg at retail market and price at wholesale market Tk 10 to Tk 15 less than retail market, sources said.

A curd producer of Pachani Bazaar area 'Porabari Mistanna Bhandar' sources said main ingredients of curds is milk, so the price of curds depend on price of milk.      

Each maund of milk was being sold at the local market normally Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg but during the festival its price increases.

The curds are supplied in earthen pots. There are two types of pots - one is of one kg and another is two kgs.

Two varieties of curds are producing in the district. One is white - it's called sour tasting cards and another one is sweet cards which colour is brown. Sour tasting curds being sold at the local market at Tk 70 to Tk 80 per kg and sweet brown coloured ones at Tk 200 to Tk 250 per kg.
