Land dispute leaves man dead in Cumilla

A man, who sustained injuries during a clash over land dispute at Chandsar village at Chandina upazila in Cumilla on Tuesday, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 45, son of late Ali Mia of the village.

Locals said there was a long-standing dispute between five sons of Ali Mia and his neighbour Abdul Hakim's four sons over a piece of land.

The two sides locked into an altercation centering cutting down a tree branch on Tuesday morning.

At one stage, sons of Abdul Hakim swooped on the Ali Mia's family with sharp weapons, leaving Safiqul, Toufiq, Faruk and his wife Lily Begum critically injured, reports UNB.

Among them, Safiqul was taken to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.

Deceased's elder brother Mamotaj Uddin lodged a murder case with Chandina Model Police Station, said Md Abul Faisal, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Meanwhile, police arrested four people in this connection for interrogation, the OC added.
