JU embraced the Bengali new year with colourful Mangal Shobhajatra

Marking the onset of the Bengali New Year, Jahangirnagar University (JU) observed Pohela Boisakh 1431 with colourful arrangements.

The festivities, adorned with vibrant displays, featured the traditional 'Mangal Shobhajatra' procession, symbolizing the nation's prosperity and well-being.

They were led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Md. Nurul Alam, the procession kicked off at 9:45 am from the Faculty of Business Studies premises. This year's slogan for the procession, "Nobo anande jago aaji nobo robi kirone," conveyed the spirit of awakening with renewed joy under the sun's fresh beams.

During the inauguration, JU VC said, "The Bengali New Year brings happiness, peace, and prosperity to everyone's life. Pohela Boisakh is an integral part of Bengali nationhood."

The Vice-Chancellor urged collaborative efforts to construct a joyful and thriving Bangladesh with fresh energy and enthusiasm, leaving behind the hardships and setbacks of the previous year. He appreciated the current government for implementing the Bengali New Year allowance.

Earlier, around 8:15 am, the JU VC exchanged greetings with teachers, officials, and employees at his residence.

The event commenced with the National Anthem, followed by a brief speech by the Vice Chancellor extending New Year wishes.

The pro-VC (Admin), Professor Sheikh Md. Monzurul Huq, the pro-VC (Academic); Professor Dr Mohammed Mostafa Feeroz, the Treasurer; Professor Dr Rasheda Akhtar; the Deans, Registrar, Proctor, Hall Provosts, Women's Club members, teachers, students, officials, and teachers from JU School and College participated in the events.
