Twenty-one miners, who were trapped after a coalmine accident that occurred a month ago in China’s Shangdong province, have died.

Rescuers managed to rescue only one of the 22 miners trapped, report Reuters, Xinhua and The Australian.

More than 300 people were reportedly working at the mine when the accident occurred on October 20. Most of the miners were taken to safety, but 22 remained trapped inside.

Another report says, two Chinese coal mining executives were sacked by Shandong Energy Longkou Mining Group in response to the disaster.

Shandong Energy Longkou Mining Group sacked the president of Longyun Coal Mining and its vice president and chief engineer, Xinhua cited the Shandong Provincial Bureau of Coal Mine Safety as saying on Friday.

A working team has also been set up to help with investigations of mine accidents.
