At least 20 Islamic state militants including two commanders were killed as the government forces planes targeted the hardliner group's hideouts in Afghanistan’s eastern Laghman province on Friday night, an army spokesman said Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, the security forces launched airstrikes against IS rebels' hideouts in Nurlam valley of Alinegar district, said Shirin Aqa Faqiri, an army spokesman in the eastern region.

The two dead commanders were identified as Mawlawi Turab and Musa Khan, Xinhua news agency reported citing the official.

Faqiri, however, declined to provide more details.
