The holy month of Ramadan is still two weeks away but market prices of essentials are already showing an upward trend. As always, the common people are falling victim to greedy traders and their syndicates. Many people are buying things from the wholesale market to avoid being cheated by the retailers.
Over the decades Ramadan has become a month of price hike resulting in miseries of the public. It is a common knowledge that just before and during Ramadan the prices of essentials will go up and make life miserable for the common people. The concerned agencies of the government finish their duties by only issuing threats of penal action for those found responsible for unusual price hike, but reality speaks otherwise. There is very little effect of government warnings on the dishonest businessmen.
In the developed world, we see traders offering attractive discounts during major festivals, but in our country we see just the reverse. The unethical traders engage themselves in looting tight purse of the public by artificially raising the prices of all commodities. The common people have no other choice but to depend on the government to keep prices of essentials steady, but they are often disappointed.
