Green Revolution in the RMG sector

THE readymade garments (RMG) factories have been facing a prolonged battle defending its reputation in recent times. Among others Rana Plaza tragedy badly tarnished the image of RMG sector. However, the rise of environment-friendly RMG factories in Bangladesh is likely to create a wave of an industrial "Green Revolution"!
Apart from improving the reputation of RMG, making the industries 'environment-friendly' can ensure a better workplace and hence provide the workers with safety while increasing industrial productivity.
A green revolution in Bangladesh's industrial scenario is not a  dream as 67 factories have already received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certificates from the US Green Building Council and another 222 factories have been registered for certification. So, this is just the beginning!
"Going green" means decreasing carbon emissions so that eco-friendly factories may use water-saving technology, harvest rainwater and use solar panels for power generation. This is how Bangladesh can regain the attention from global brands and retailers. Global buyers are increasingly paying attention to Bangladesh's environmental sustainability and hence the country can benefit by proving the integrity and sincerity of its RMG sector in terms of workers and environment safety.
