24-hr restriction on movement inside DU

A 24-hour restriction has been imposed on the movement inside Dhaka University for its central students'union election.

The restriction will come into effect at 6:00 pm on Sunday and it will continue till 6:00 pm on Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said at a press briefing at Shahbagh Police Station in the city.

The briefing aimed at informing the media of the DMP security measures for the Ducsu election.

No one will be allowed into the campus with a vehicle or no vehicle without valid passes or ID cards provided by the university, Mia said.

Even while moving here and there inside the campus, all teachers, students and staff of the university have to carry their valid ID cards, he said.

To ensure the restricted movement, check-posts will be set up at seven entry points of the campus, the DMC chief said.

Even patients have not been kept outside the restriction, as he said that the patients of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital will have to move via Bakshibazar and Chankharpool.

Members of police and RAB will be on the election duty, he said, adding that all the voting centres during the Ducsu election will be brought under CCTV camera surveillance.

The Ducsu election is set to be held on March 11, after 28 long years. The last DUCSU panel dissolved in 1992.
