IN recent times, I find many of my friends and classmates getting involved in a spate of discussions on leadership. This has been an important topic of discussion for centuries. Socially, politically or business-wise, leadership matters and I would like to share my feelings on leadership with my friends and classmates. Whether one is an office manager or a project leader, all good leaders require a number of soft skills to help them positively interact with colleagues or team members and lead them effectively. Employers seek these skills in the candidates they hire for leadership roles. Here are 10 mandatory skills a leader must have.
1. Communication: A leader should be able to clearly and succinctly explain to the employees everything from organizational goals to specific tasks.
2. Motivation: A leader should be able to inspire the workers to go the extra mileage for their organization.
3. Delegating authority: A leader should be prepared to distribute tasks among his/her colleagues and get things done properly.
4. Positive attitude: A leader must have a positive attitude which will take him a can go a long way in an organization.
5. Trustworthiness: Employees should feel comfortable with their manager or leader with questions and concerns.
6. Creativity: As a leader, one has to make a number of decisions that do not have a clear answer; one therefore need to be able to think outside of the box.
7. Feedback: A leader should constantly look for opportunities to deliver useful information to team members about their performance.
8. Responsibility: A leader should be responsible for both the successes and failures of his or her team.
9. Commitment: It is important for a leader to follow through with what they agree to do.
10. Flexibility: Mishaps and last-minute changes always occur at work. A leader needs to be flexible, accepting whatever changes come their way.
If one has all these 10 skills, only then he/she can be a true leader.
