THE haor people of Sunamganj, Habiganj and Netrokona have been up against untold hardships in the aftermath of flash flood. Two months have passed since the onslaught of flash flood which caused tremendous sufferings for the people of the haor areas. Flash flood has damaged boro crops entirely and since people of the area are overly dependent on the boro crop, their miseries knew no bounds when flash flood struck. They lost their boro crops and are facing tremendous hardships as they have no food grains stock for the rest of the season. Though the government has resumed relief operation in those areas under social safety net programme, it is meagre compared to the number of affected people and extent of damages. Moreover, only acquaintances of local influential people could manage some relief materials, others could not. The local government should pay more attention to people affected by flash flood and distribute relief to the needy people.
