USING gas for cooking is an efficient way of consuming gas. Generating power burning fuel gas is not at all efficient. Only 37 to 38 per cent efficiency is achieved from combined cycle power plant that consumes gas to generate power. Bashabo is one of the planned residential areas in Dhaka metropolis. Hundreds of thousands middle and lower middle class people live here along with the poor. From last December inhabitants have been experiencing shortage of fuel gas supplied by the Titas Gas T & D Company Ltd. The dwellers of the area solely dependent on fuel gas for cooking. During the day, particularly from 11am to 2pm cooking any food in Bashabo has become difficult owing to short supply of gas. The population of the locality has increased many folds over the last couple of decades. After installation of gas lines by Titas Gas around forty years ago, no further initiative was taken to augment the gas supply in the area. Immediate steps are necessary to solve the acute problem of gas supply.
We urge upon the authority concerned to take proper steps to augment fuel gas supply and to develop an environment congenial to living for the people of Bashabo.
