Rajuk to inspect 100 buildings a month

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) launched a crackdown on errant building owners in June for violation of construction rules.

The city development authority served notices on owners of 1,932 buildings out of 2,574 and demolished part of about 13 buildings, officials said.

The action was part of the previous decision to increase the number of buildings inspected by the inspectors or authorised officers.

Action is supposed to be taken against the errant engineers, developers and plot owners.

In the monthly coordination meeting held on July 19, it was reported that there were 2,574 buildings in eight zones, of which 1,771 were older and 803 new. Besides, 8,000 buildings were inspected in June under the special survey programme.

No case was filed against anyone in June, the meeting was informed.

It was reported in the coordination meeting that building inspectors visited 803 and authorised officers visited 218 buildings in June.

Zonal directors informed the meeting that they had approved 406 designs in June in eight zones.

As per the decision of the ministry, building inspectors will visit at least 100 buildings every month, the meeting minutes said.

Only six occupancy certificates for new buildings were issued in June in zones 2, 4 and 5.

But the zone-wise list of 40,000 buildings published in the newspapers was not submitted to the Rajuk chairman in the July meeting despite the instruction to complete it by June 30.
