July exports post only 0.59pc growth

The country’s merchandise exports in the first month of the current fiscal year (FY21) posted a nominal 0.59 per cent growth over the same month of the past fiscal year.

Statistics, released by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), today (Tuesday) showed that exports earnings in July stood at $3.91 billion which was $3.88 billion in the same month of 2019.

It also showed that exports receipts registered 13.40 per cent growth over July’s strategic target of $3.44 billion.

Receipts from the readymade garment (RMG) sector, the major source of export earnings, declined by around 2.0 per cent in July this year.

Although earnings from knit-RMG stood at $1.75 billion by registering 4.30 per cent growth, receipts from woven-RMG declined by 8.43 per cent to $1.49 billion during the month under review.
