Goods transportation resumes at Ctg port after 18 hours

Transportation of goods and containers to and from Chattogram port has resumed as truckers and covered-van drivers returned to work withdrawing their strike today.

The container movement, after 18 hours of suspension caused by the strike, resumed around 2 in the morning, local media reported quoting Md Omar Faruq, secretary of Chattogram Port Authority (CPA).

With the strike begun 6:00 in the morning yesterday (Wednesday), many goods- and container-carrying vehicles, including trucks, trailers, had got stuck at the port.

Once an announcement to withdraw the strike was made, those vehicles started from the port, Omar Faruq said.

Around the same time, container-laden vehicles from 17 private off-docks also started for the port, said Ruhul Amin Sikder, secretary of Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association (BICDA).

Bangladesh Truck, Covered-van Goods Transport Owners-Workers Unity Council convener Rustam Ali announced the withdrawal of the strike around 1:00 in the morning.

It follows a meeting with home minister Asaduzzaman Khan at his Dhanmondi residence in the capital.

The truckers and covered-van drivers started their strike across the country yesterday amid a wildcat strike enforced by bus drivers and owners in 11 districts in the country.
