Bank transaction time extended by one hour

The central bank has asked all the scheduled banks to extend transaction hours for customers by one hour during the government-announced general holidays to help stop coronavirus transmission.

The banks have also been asked to provide banking services on a limited scale from April 5 to April 09 keeping open their branches from 10 am to 3:00 pm.

The transaction period has been re-fixed from 10:00am to 1:00pm, against two hours earlier from 10am on each working days, according to a fresh notification, issued by the Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Thursday.

"We've extended the banking transaction period by one hour considering necessity of the public," a BB senior official told the FE while replying to a query.

The banks have also been asked to ensure providing cash transaction, cheque clearing, demand draft, pay order issue, treasury chalan submission, and other services under the payment and clearing system to their clients.

On the other hand, operations of the National Payment Switch Bangladesh, Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network and Bangladesh Automated Clearing House have been extended from April 05 to April 09 on the same ground, according to the BB's another notification.

The government on Wednesday decided to extend the ongoing closure of public and private offices and all other non-essential services until April 11 to curb the spread of COVID-19 outbreak.

Earlier, it declared all offices and schools shut from March 26 to April 04 on the same ground.
