United Power tops weekly turnover chart

Ten companies grab 19pc transactions on DSE

Ten most traded companies accounted for 19 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week, with the United Power Generation & Distribution Company making it to the top of the turnover chart.

Market analysts said investors collected the United Power shares throughout the week amid positive expectations ahead of its June year-end closing.

According to the DSE data, about 2.58 million shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 953 million, which was 3.67 per cent of the weekly total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 25.98 billion this week as against Tk 24.63 billion in the previous week.

The power generation company's share closed at Tk 373.20 each on Thursday, gaining 3.24 per cent over the week before.

The company's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 5.19 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 2.40 (separate) for January-March 2018.

The consolidated EPS was Tk 12.88 for July 2018-March 2019 as against Tk 7.01 (separate) for July 2017-March 2018.

The consolidated net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) was Tk 10.52 for July 2018-March 2019 as against Tk 6.67 (separate) for July 2017-March 2018.

The consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 66.29 as on March 31, 2019 and Tk 34.00 (separate) as on June 30, 2018.

United Power, listed on the DSE in April 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividends for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.79 billion and authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutions own 6.64 per cent, foreign investors 0.04 per cent and the general public 3.32 per cent as of May 31, 2019, the DSE data show.

JMI Syringes came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 700 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 1.46 per cent to close at Tk 437.60 each on Thursday, the last trading session of the week.

Eastern Insurance clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 480 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 56 each, soaring 17.40 per cent over the previous week.

Dragon Sweater emerged fourth, with shares worth Tk 473 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 10.93 per cent to close at Tk 20.30 each.

New Line Clothings notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 459 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 24.20 each, advancing 5.22 per cent.

The turnover of Nurani Dyeing was Tk 419 million. The company's share price rose 10.39 per cent to close at Tk 17 each on Thursday.

Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 403 million. The company's share closed at Tk 222.40 each, advancing 1.41 per cent over the week before.

The turnover of Global Insurance was Tk 366 million. The company's share price advanced 9.61 per cent to close at Tk 30.80 each.

Rupali Life Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 340 million. The company's share closed at Tk 67.10 each, gaining 1.98 per cent.

BBS Cables also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 339 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 3.37 per cent to close at Tk 97.50 each.
