Low-cap cos dominate DSE turnover chart

Low-cap companies dominated the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) turnover chart on Wednesday while ten most traded companies accounted for 22 per cent transactions.

Sonar Bangla Insurance topped the turnover chart, followed by Sinobangla Industries, SK Trims & Industries, Paramount Insurance and LafargeHolcim.

Market analysts said investors were mostly active on Sonar Bangla Insurance shares amid dividend expectation as its year to be ended on December 31.

The insurer's earnings jumped 85 per cent year-on-year in July-September quarter of 2019 compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

The company's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.91 for July-September 2019 as against Tk 0.49 for July-September 2018.

According to the DSE data, some 3.92 million shares of Sonar Bangla Insurance were traded, generating a turnover more than Tk 196 million, which was 4.24 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 4.62 billion.

The company's share closed at Tk 48.30 each on Wednesday, losing 1.83 per cent over the previous day.

However, the insurer's share price soared more than 77 per cent within three months since September 5, without any price sensitive information.

Its share price hovered between Tk 14.30 and Tk 69.60 in the last one year.

Sinobangla Industries came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 142 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 6.95 per cent to close at Tk 81.60 each.

SK Trims clinched the third spot, with shares worth nearly Tk 100 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 49.30, advancing 1.02 per cent.

Paramount Insurance emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 87 million changing hands. The company's share price gained 2.33 per cent to close at Tk 35.10 each.

LafargeHolcim notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 86 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 37.60, losing 2.84 per cent.

The turnover of Doreen Power was Tk 84 million. The power generation company's share closed at Tk 64.30 each, soaring 6.99 per cent.

Bangladesh National Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 82 million. The company's share price soared 9.87 per cent to close at Tk 24.50 each.

Northern Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 81 million. The company's share closed at Tk 26.80 each, advancing 3.08 per cent.

The turnover of United Finance was Tk 73 million. The company's share closed at Tk 19.30 each, remaining unchanged over the previous day. Saiham Cotton Mills also made its way to the day's top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 72 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 8.22 per cent to close at Tk 23.70 each.
