Unilever’s EPS jumps 40pc in nine months

Unilever Consumer Care posted a 40 per cent profit growth in the nine months from January to September 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year, due mainly to efficiency in operating expenses.

The multinational company has reported earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 44.86 for January–September 2022 as against Tk 32.10 for January–September 2021, according to a filing with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Wednesday.

Its EPS also rose to Tk 15.54 for July-September 2022 as against Tk 13.52 for July-September 2021.

‘Despite significant increase in raw and packing material cost, the EPS rose due to improvement in trade spends amounting to Tk 20 million, efficiency in operating expenses amounting to Tk 100 million as well as large one-off benefit amounting to Tk 400 million coming out of reassessment of past liabilities and obligations in light of recent business development,’ said the company.

The company has reported net operating cash flow per share 9NOCFPS0 of Tk. 16.99 for January-September 2022 as against Tk. 41.54 for January-September 2021.

The company has also reported a net asset value (NAV) per share of Tk. 123.74 as on September 30, 2022 and Tk. 122.88 as on December 31, 2021.

NOCFPS has decreased by Tk 25 mainly due to significant increase in raw and packing material along with the significant increase in foreign exchange rate partly offset by efficiency in overhead, said the company.

Unilever acquired a majority stake in GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Bangladesh in 2020 with a value of more than Tk 20 billion and renamed it Unilever Consumer Care. It is now a part of Unilever Group, focusing on the consumer healthcare and nutrition business.

In July 2020, GlaxoSmithKline (Bangladesh) changed to Unilever Consumer Care and also switched to the food and allied sector from pharmaceuticals and chemicals.

Its paid-up capital is Tk 120.46 million and its authorised capital is Tk 200 million, while the total number of securities is 12.04 million.

Out of the total shares of Unilever Consumer Care, its sponsors and directors hold 86.96 per cent, institutional investors 8.81 per cent, foreign investors 0.29 per cent, and general investors 3.91 per cent of the shares as of August 31, 2022.

Each share of the company closed at Tk 2,849.10 on Tuesday.
