Silver jubilee celebration of ICSB held

Demand for professionals like the chartered secretaries (CS) will be on the rise in coming days to help ensure corporate governance as more multinational companies are showing greater interest to invest in Bangladesh.

With their knowledge and competence, the CS can also help the country face the challenges of globalisation and complexities of modern day businesses.

This was observed at the silver jubilee celebration-2022 organized by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city's Sher-Bangla Nagar area on Sunday evening.

Cultural Affairs State Minister K M Khalid attended the function as the Chief Guest, while Chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam was the Special Guest.

The ICSB President Muzaffar Ahmed chaired the celebration programme, while the past presidents Mohammad Sanaullah, Itrat Husain, A K A Muqtadir, founding member Sultan-ul-Abedine Molla attended among others.

Hailing the ICSB member for achieving the milestone, K M Khalid said Bangladesh is advancing on the global corporate horizon with a significant pace.

"ICSB is playing an effective and meaningful role to develop, promote and regulate the profession of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh," he said.

He lauded the role of ICSB founding members for their visionary thinking and taking the initiative to establish such an Institute.

Special Guest Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam underscored the present government's commitment to ensure good corporate governance and corporate culture in the listed companies of Bangladesh.

He applauded the role of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh for developing professional skills in the corporate sector.

"ICSB is now dedicated to build up capable management professionals by continuous proactive, professional development," he said.

Highlighting the need for corporate governance, the BSEC chairman said the public limited companies in Bangladesh have become more concerned about maintaining compliance following corporate guidelines, for which ICSB is playing a vital role.

All the founding members of the ICSB, its past presidents and officials were honored by the guests for their respective roles to reach the institute at current positing passing the last 25 years.

ICSB Vice President and Chairman of Members' Welfare & Recreation Sub Committee Md. Selim Reza offered a vote of thanks.
