Khulna Power lights up turnover chart

Ten most traded cos account for 29pc transactions

Ten most traded companies accounted for 29 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with Khulna Power Company Ltd. (KPCL) generating the highest turnover.

Market analysts said investors continued to show their appetite for Khulna Power shares following the news that the company will acquire 35 per cent ordinary shares of the United Payra Power Plant.

According to the DSE data, some 4.03 million shares of Khulna Power were traded, generating a turnover of over Tk 206 million, which was 5.32 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 3.86 billion.

The power generation company's share closed at Tk 51.90 on Thursday, soaring 6.35 per cent over the previous day.

Its share traded between Tk 34.90 and Tk 73.50 in the last one year.

Brac Bank came second on the top ten turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 127 million changing hands. The bank's share price fell 2.24 per cent to close at Tk 52.30 each.

Square Pharma clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 110 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 189, advancing 0.16 per cent.

Shurwid Industries emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 107 million changing hands. The company's share rose 5.11 per cent to close at Tk 32.90 each.

LafargeHolcim notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 106 million changing hands. The cement producer's share closed at Tk 36.70, gaining 1.94 per cent.

The turnover of Standard Ceramic was Tk 100 million. The company's share price advanced 0.01 per cent to close at Tk 719.60 each.

Premier Bank featured a turnover of Tk 88 million. The bank's share closed at Tk 11.90, losing 3.25 each.

The turnover of City Bank was Tk 77 million. Its share price fell 3.88 per cent to close at Tk 19.80 each.

Grameenphone featured a turnover of Tk 72 million. Its share closed at Tk 282.90 each, advancing 0.53 per cent.
