Dhaka stocks open marginally lower, CSE gains

Stocks on the Dhaka bourse opened marginally lower on Wednesday as the risk-averse investors kept their selling binge on sector-wise issues.

Following the previous day’s sharp fall, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 7.34 points or 0.10 per cent to stand at 6,686 after the first hour of trading at 11:00 am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 1.55 points to reach 2,466. But the Shariah Index (DSES) dropped 1.34 points to stand at 1,459.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.52 billion at 11:00 am.

Market operators said the investors remained cautious and reluctant to make fresh investments in stocks amid the ongoing holy Ramadan.

Of the issues traded till then, 211 declined, 96 advanced, and 57 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

LafargeHolcim was the most traded stock till the filing of this report with shares worth Tk 226 million changing hands, closely followed by Beximco, Sea Pearl Beach, Genex Infosys and Nahee Aluminum.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange opened marginally higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—gaining 15 to stand at 19,667, while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX – managed 9.0 points to reach 11,795 at 11:00.

Of the issues traded till then, 39 advanced, 95 declined, and 21 remained unchanged with Tk 43 million in turnover.
