Bangladesh Thai Aluminium atop DSE turnover chart

Top 10 cos account for 20pc transactions

Bangladesh Thai Aluminium dominated the Dhaka bourse's turnover chart on Thursday while top 10 traded companies grabbed more than 20 per cent of transactions.

Brokers said the BD Thai emerged as the turnover leader as the investors were active to collect its shares throughout the trading session.

Although, the company's share fell 3.42 per cent to close at Tk 31.10 on Thursday, it surged 25 per cent over the last one month.

The share of the engineering sector company hovered between Tk 19.90 and Tk 30.90 in the last one year.

Last year, the company raised Tk 523.35 million through issuance of 52.33 million ordinary shares of Tk 10 at par to enhance the production capacity and repay loans.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 5.53 million shares of BD Thai were traded on Thursday, generating a turnover of Tk 175 million, accounting for 3.38 per cent of the premier bourse's total transaction.

BD Thai, listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in 1990, recommended 5.0 per cent stock dividend for the year ending on June 30, 2017. In 2016, the company disbursed 5.0 per cent cash and 10 per cent stock dividends.

Meanwhile, the top ten traded companies, including three banks, accounted for more than 20 per cent of the day's total transactions on the DSE.

Baraka Power came in next, with shares of Tk 145 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price closed at Tk 37.60, gaining 0.4.44 per cent over the previous day.

Paramount Textile notched the third spot, with shares of Tk 144 million changing hands. Its share fell 1.10 per cent to close at Tk 45 each.

City Bank emerged as fourth with shares of Tk 101 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 52.90, losing 1.86 per cent over the previous session.

The turnover of CMC Kamal was Tk 88 million. The textile company's share price rose 1.84 per cent to close at Tk 27.70.

AMCL (Pran) featured a turnover of Tk 84 million. Its share price advanced 3.06 per cent to close at Tk 245.50 each.

The turnover of FAS Finance was Tk 81 million. Its share price closed at Tk 23, advancing 3.60 per cent.

Golden Harvest Agro Industries featured a turnover of Tk 78 million. Its share price fell 2.0 per cent to close at Tk 23 each.

The turnover of Fu-Wang Food was Tk 77 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 77, shedding by 10.08 per cent. It was also the day's biggest loser.

Brac Bank was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares of Tk 73 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 106.20, losing 1.67 per cent over the previous day.
