Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir on Saturday asked the students to prepare themselves as responsible and worthy citizens to serve the nation through proper education and probity.
The BB Governor was addressing "Mercantile Bank-Abdul Jalil Education Scholarship- 2017" at a ceremony organised in a city hotel as the chief guest.
He admired such CSR activities of Mercantile Bank, which, he hoped will help flourish the development of human resources.
A total of 229 students of Dhaka Division have been awarded with the Mercantile Bank-Abdul Jalil Education Scholarship-2017.
Mercantile Bank Chairman A.K.M. Shaheed Reza was the special guest.
The chief guest handed over the cheques and the certificates of the scholarship to the 229 students among whom there were 29 autistic and physically challenged students, 50 JSC students, 33 SSC students, 67 HSC students and 50 students in DMP quota.
Shahidul Ahsan, Chairman of Mercantile Bank Foundation, presided over the programme and Bank's Managing Director & CEO Kazi Masihur Rahman delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.
Chairman, Audit Committee Dr. Mahmood Osman Imam, Directors Al-Haj Akram Hossain (Humayun, Al-Haj Mosharref Hossain and Dr. Md. Rahmat Ullah and shareholder M A Khan Belal were present in the ceremony.
A.K.M. Shaheed Reza, as the special guest, thanked the meritorious students and their parents. He also committed to continue the bank's CSR efforts and to increase the funding in this area.
Managing Director & CEO of the bank Kazi Masihur Rahman said that Mercantile Bank awarded 1,200 students from all over the country with Tk 17 million scholarship last year.
Additional managing directors, deputy managing directors and senior executives of the bank, students and guardians were also present on the occasion, according to a statement.
