Ramadan in Dhaka adds vibrancy and colour

DHAKA city wears a different look during the holy month of Ramadan. The feature that easily draws our attention during Ramadan is the colourful display of food items especially prepared for Iftar in makeshift road side shops everywhere. An array of mouth watering food items is put on sale and buyers are seen swarming around the shops. These days we see the city dwellers taking their Sahri meal along with their friends and families in restaurants. This is of course a relatively new concept and many posh restaurants are open during the dying hours of the night and in this way they are doing a brisk business too even during the Sahri. We sorely miss this festivity after the Ramadan. During Ramadan, all mosques are crowded with devotes during the prayer times. As the Eid-ul-Fitr draws nearer, we see a huge rush in every market of the city and the businessmen achieve 60 per cent of their annual sale during Ramadan. The festive mood of Ramadan touches everyone including the non-Muslims. Ramadan is a month of sharing and caring. The rich share their wealth with the poor. The holy month of Ramadan brings us closer to one another.
