Alarming rise of suicide

Published :

Updated :

INCIDENTS of suicide in our country is increasing alarmingly. Bangladesh ranks 94th in the suicide chart of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Globally, the number of suicide has increased by 60 per cent in the last 50 years. Bangladesh is no exception where people die by committing suicide out of frustration or non-fulfilment of dreams or desires. Materialistic life often becomes a major cause of dissatisfaction and drives people to end their own lives through suicide. Women tend to commit suicide mostly due to torture and maltreatment of their husbands and families. Had the society been a little more sympathetic and caring about the womenfolk, we could have curbed the increasing number of suicides in the country. Failure in love is still a major cause of suicide for both male and females in our country. In fact, we can save a lot of lives by being a little more sympathetic and affectionate towards the ones who are being subjected to oppression and deprivation in our society. We should tell everybody that like success, failure is also part of life. If we have failure at any point of time or become objects of negligence and oppression, we should fight back and not accept the same as a matter of fate. We must be optimistic and positive about life. Teachings of religions also want us to be always hopeful about the future.
